Almanzar’s Clutch Hitting Propels Westchester CC Vikings To Victory Over Dominican Univ JV

Mar 27

Valhalla, NY — Chaos, momentum swings, and clutch hitting defined a thriller that saw Westchester CC outlast Dominican University JV, 16–15, on Thursday.

Almanzar delivered the decisive blows, driving in four runs on two doubles. His three-run double in the third ignited a comeback, and his RBI double in the fifth helped seal the win.

Dominican seized early control with a nine-run eruption in the second inning, stringing together hits, walks, and productive outs to build a commanding lead. Westchester answered immediately.

Adriel Rodriguez(Yonkers, NY/Saunders High School) sparked the response with an RBI double, and Freddy Heymach(Pawling, NY/Pawling High School) followed with a towering three-run triple as the Vikings stormed back with six runs in the bottom half, cutting deep into the deficit.

Dominican refused to let up, adding three more runs in the third to stretch the lead again. The Vikings' response was even louder.

Westchester exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third, flipping the game in stunning fashion. The defining moment came off the bat of Oscar Almanzar(Dominican Republic), who ripped a bases-clearing double to push the Vikings in front and shift all momentum.

The lead didn't last long. Dominican clawed back in the fourth, using a run-scoring single and a sacrifice fly to edge ahead once more.

With the game hanging in the balance, Westchester delivered the final answer in the fifth. Almanzar struck again with an RBI double, and Heymach followed with another clutch extra-base hit to give the Vikings a 16–15 advantage they would not surrender.

Austin Jorgensen(Poughkeepsie,NY/Our Lady Of Lourdes) slammed the door out of the bullpen, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two. Tyler Senft(Greenwich, CT/Greenwich High School) added a clean inning in relief to stabilize things late and earn the save.

Heymach powered the offense with five RBIs, while both he and Almanzar collected two hits apiece. Rodriguez set the tone with patience at the plate, drawing three walks as Westchester worked nine free passes overall.

Momentum swung inning by inning, but in the end, Westchester delivered the final punch in a game that refused to slow down.
