Valhalla, NY - The Westchester Community College men's and women's golf teams concluded their remarkable 2026 season by competing at the prestigious NJCAA National Championship, marking another significant milestone for a program that has continued to build momentum following its return to competition.
Leading the way for the Vikings was Emily Hernandez(Hartsdale,NY/Saunders High School), who turned in an outstanding performance against some of the nation's top golfers, finishing 15th overall in the tournament field. Her strong showing capped off an impressive season and demonstrated Westchester's ability to compete at the highest level of NJCAA golf.
The men's team also represented the college with distinction throughout the national championship. In addition to competing against the best programs from across the country, the Vikings were recognized for their exemplary conduct and sportsmanship by earning the tournament's Sportsmanship Award. The honor reflects the team's commitment to integrity, respect, and professionalism both on and off the golf course. It wasn't only their sportsmanship but also their play that put everyone on notice. Jack Canalin(Baldwinsville, NY/Encinal High School) finished in 66th and 10, 11 and 12 spots behind him were teammates Steven Alvarez(Brookfield, CT/Danbury High School), Brendan Smith(Holmes,NY/Pelham High School) and Tyler Bradshaw(New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle High School).
Competing at the NJCAA National Tournament served as the culmination of a memorable season for Westchester Community College. The Vikings battled through a challenging schedule, earned their place among the nation's elite programs, and showcased the values that define the program.
