Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Swept by Rockland CC in 2019 Home Finale

(Valhalla, NY) - Sophomore Gabriela Faria (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) led all players with 12 kills, and hit a season-best .400, and freshman Stefania Rinaldi (White Plains, NY/Valhalla HS) added five kills, nine assisys, four service aces, and five digs, but the Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball team lost its third consecutive match, 3-0 to Rockland Community College on Tuesday night at Viking Gymnasium. With the loss, the Vikings are now 5-13 overall, 5-12 in NJCAA Region XV play, and 3-6 in Mid-Hudson Conference play.

Competing on their home floor for the final time this season, the Vikings battled through all three sets against the Mid-Hudson Conference powerhouse, but late rallies in each set allowed Rockland (11-7, 10-6, 8-1) to claim the win. Rockland won the match 25-20, 25-18, and 25-22 after hitting .175 and combining for 16 service aces.

The difference in the match was the service game as Rockland combined for 16 service aces and eight errors, while Westchester had 10 service aces, but 14 errors during an otherwise statistically close match.

Faria was dominant in the middle, breaking 10 kills for the third time this season. Also for the Vikings, sophomore Melody Pabon (Bronx, NY/Celia Cruz) had seven kills and eight digs, while Tia Sue (Sleepy Hollow, NY/Sleepy Hollow HS) added five digs.

Westchester CC returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 17 when the Vikings travel to Ulster Community College for their 2019 regular season finale at 7:00 p.m. Westchester is still in the hunt for the fourth and final Mid-Hudson Conference playoff berth, and a win would all but clinch a spot in the post-season.
