(Loch Sheldrake, NY) - Freshmen
Jomare Lopez (Bronx, NY/Wildcat Academy) and
Donjeta Prelvukaj (Bronx, NY/St. Catharine) began their Westchester Community College careers with double-doubles, and freshman
Jailine Ruiz (Bronx, NY/Bryant HS) added 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists, but the Westchester CC Women's Basketball team opened the 2019-2020 season with a 99-55 loss to Raritan Valley Community College on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Community College.
Lopez was outstanding, scoring a team-high 17 points to go with 11 rebounds, while Prelvukaj chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds. However, after playing a scrappy first half during which the Vikings trailed 33-18 at halftime, RVCC rallied to outscored WCC 36-19 during the third quarter, and all but put the game away.
Westchester struggled to shoot, converting 23% of their efforts, including a 6 for 28 performance from three-point range. Other than the shooting disparity, the game was statistically very close. RVCC held a 57-47 rebounding edge, and won the turnover battle 20-15.
Also for the Vikings, freshman Marisol Rodriguez (New York, NY/High School of Economics & Finance) grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.
Westchester CC returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 3 when the Vikings travel to Rowan College at Burlington County for a 1:00 p.m. start.
