Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Monroe-Bronx downs Men’s Soccer in Region XV Opener

(New Rochelle, NY) - Freshman Luis Madriz (Tuckahoe, NY/Tuckahoe HS) scored his first career goal, a tally in the 55th minute that temporarily tied the game, and sophomore Guilherme Griza (Novo Hamburgo-RS (Brazil)/Colegio Marista Pio XII) made two saves, but the Westchester Community College Men's Soccer team dropped its 2019 Region XV opener, 2-1 to Monroe College-Bronx on Tuesday afternoon at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, NY. With the loss, the Vikings are now 1-1 for the 2019 season.

Westchester had plenty of opportunities throughout the game, but it was one of those days when the ball could not seem to find its way into the net. Monroe (2-0, 1-0 Region XV) overcame a litany of Viking scoring chances early, and broke through with a goal at 21:44 to make it a 1-0 game. The Express would take the lead into halftime despite being out-shot 7-1 by Westchester.

The Vikings started the second stanza by controlling play, and finally, at 54:53, Madriz found the back of the net to tie things 1-1.

However, the tie was short-lived. Five minutes after Madriz's equalizer, the hosts went ahead for good, and held on for the victory.

Overall, Westchester out-shot Monroe 12-7.

The Vikings return to action on Tuesday, September 10 when they travel to Queensborough Community College for a 4:00 pm start that could prove to be a crucial early season Region XV match-up.
