Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls to RCBC

(Valhalla, NY) - Freshman Donjeta Prelvukaj (Bronx, NY/St. Catharine) notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore Jada Tom (Elmsford, NY/Alexander Hamilton HS) added 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals, but the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball team lost its second straight game, 67-39 to Rowan College of Burlington County on Thursday night at Viking Gymnasium. With the loss, Westchester is now 9-10 for the 2019-2020 season.

The Vikings got off to a rough shooting start, but ultimately made the game far more competitive than the final score indicated. Westchester fell behind 16-2 after converting only one of its first 13 field goal attempts, but the Vikings quickly battled back. After trailing 16-5 at the end of the first quarter, a better second quarter sent WCC into halftime trailing 26-14. And that's when the Vikings made one of their most impressive runs of the season.

The first four minutes of the third quarter were all Westchester. During that stretch, Prelvukaj scored 10 of her 12 points, and when she converted a rare four-point play with 6:08 to play in the third stanza, Westchester trailed only 30-28, capping a 14-4 Viking run. However, any hope of a complete comeback were dashed on the next RCBC possession. The Barons missed three consecutive shots, but grabbed the offensive rebound each time, and finally converted the fourth opportunity to extend the lead back to four points. From there, an 8-2 RCBC run, followed up by a 15-0 Baron run put the game away. RCBC outscored Westchester 37-11 during the final 14 minutes of play.

Westchester also enjoyed an outstanding effort from freshman Tina Fabrizi (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck HS), who scored nine points, and added five steals, and four rebounds.

Westchester rebounded from the slow shooting start to shoot 20% from the floor for the game, while RCBC shot 39%. The biggest disparity was on the boards as Westchester as out-rebounded 75-37.

Westchester CC returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 2 when the Vikings welcome North Country Community College at 1:00 p.m. The Saints are currently ranked #5 in the NJCAA at the Division III level.
