Women's Basketball Falls to #4 Hostos CC Despite Ruiz's 17 Points

(Bronx, NY) - Freshman Jailine Ruiz (Bronx, NY/William Cullen Bryant HS) scored 17 points and added three rebounds and three assists, and fellow freshman Donjeta Prelvukaj (Bronx, NY/St. Catharine) added 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, but the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball team fell 92-41 to Hostos Community College, the nation's fourth-ranked team on Thursday night at Hostos CC. With the loss, the Vikings are now 10-14 for the 2019-2020 season.

Facing a top-five team in the nation for the second time during a three-day span, the Vikings got off to a slow start, scoring only four first quarter points, before battling the rest of the way and reaching double digits during each of the final three quarters against the two-time defending National Champion Caimans.

Also for the Vikings, freshman Sarah Placide (New City, NY/Clarkstown North HS) added five points and six rebounds.

Westchester Community College returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when the Vikings travel to Suffolk Community College for a 1:00 p.m. start. Westchester CC defeated Suffolk 45-39 on Dec. 8, 2019 at home.
