Branchburg, NJ – Powered by
Dominique Gaydarik ( St. Catherine Academy/Bronx, NY) and
Adriana McFadden (Ossining/Ossining, NY), the Vikings took home a 61-60 comeback victory over host Raritan Valley. Westchester now moves to 2-3 overall.
The first quarter of the game saw both teams come out to a strong shooting game. McFadden and Gaydarik would trade 3-pointers with one another throughout the first 10 minutes of the game. The Vikings would then go cold in the second and third quarters scoring a total of 17 points between the two.
What really helped SUNY WCC was some lock down defense in the third quarter. The team held the Lions to 8 quarter points to cut into their 45-37 lead heading into the fourth.
Brianna Melo (Brooklyn Arts and Media/Brooklyn, NY) added 6 of her 8 crucial points to help the Vikings inch closer to tying the game.
The fourth quarter saw an explosion of 3-pointers again from Dominique and a solid offensive attack by McFadden to bring Westchester right back into the ballgame.
Mylene Smith (Hendrick Hudson/Peekskill, NY) would put the Vikings back into the lead with a layup with 2:07 remaining in the game.
Westchester next game will be against #14 ranked Monroe-Bronx on Tuesday November 22 here in Viking Gymnasium. Tip-off will be at 5pm.
