(Dobbs Ferry, NY) - Freshman
Kai Parris (Bronx, NY/Riverdale Kingsbridge) scored 17 points and added four rebounds, and fellow freshman
Elijah Gonzalez (Bronx, NY/Winston Salem Christian) added 11 points, but the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball fell 87-59 to fifth-ranked Sullivan Community College on Thursday night at Victory Hall on the campus of Mercy College. With the loss, the Vikings are now 9-7 overall and 3-3 in Mid-Hudson Conference and NJCAA Region XV play.
It was a tale of two halves as the Vikings battled Sullivan (16-3, 4-1) throughout the first half, trailing 46-37 at the break as eight different Vikings scored during the first 20 minutes, led by Parris, who had 13 points during the span. A Parris basket with 13:10 remaining in the game made it a 59-48 game, but from there, Sullivan went on a 19-0 run over a span of 3:31 to extend the lead to 30, and put the game away.
Sullivan won the shooting game, converting 44% of its attempts, compared to 39% for Westchester, and the Generals enjoyed a dominant evening on the boards (52-37), while forcing 22 turnovers, and committing only 13.
Westchester Community College returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 when the Vikings travel to Monroe-Bronx for a 3:00 p.m. start.
