Valhalla, NY – The Vikings powered past Queensborough last night 87-49 in Viking Gymnasium thanks to a 27-point performance from
Milagros Alston.
Westchester opened up the game with a 22 point first quarter against the Tigers. The Vikings defense held Queensborough to eight points forcing four turnovers and holding them to shooting 15% from the floor. Alston led the charge with eight points,
Baronique Russell added seven points and six rebounds while
Jaida Tejada had five points. Westchester would shoot 52% from the floor.
SUNY WCC had a strong second quarter adding 23 points. Milagros once again led the charge for the Vikings scoring 11 points while
Chynna Mincey added four points and five rebounds to extend the lead by 24 over the Tigers.
Fatigue hit the Vikings coming out of halftime and into the third quarter. Westchester would score 19 points shooting 33% from the floor. Russell would lead the team with six points in the quarter while adding four rebounds to her nights resume. Queensborough's Sheila Da Silva would notch eight points of her own to aid the Tigers 16-point quarter.
The final quarter saw Westchester slow up the pace to solidify the victory.
Krismelis Melo and Tejada would add six points while both Alston and Mincey would add four. Every Viking player had double-digit points to end the contest. Russell would have a game-high 22 rebounds while Mincey added 17 rebounds on the evening.
The Vikings look to tomorrow, December 14
th, when they travel to Selden, NY out on the Island as they take on Suffolk Community College. That game will tip-off at 5pm.
