A Valiant Team Effort. Vikings Take Two In Record February Warmth

Valhalla, NY – If you were to come to any northeast college with an all-natural field and say, "Let's schedule a game for February 15th," they would say you're dreaming. Well, on a 60-degree day, that dream came true.

The Vikings Baseball team hosted their earliest games on record Wednesday on Vikings Field against Manhattanville College's JV team. Westchester outscored the Valiants 26-2 in the twin bill. Hitting and pitching were the most promenade forces throughout the day.

Game 1: 11-1 Win
The Vikings came out strong with a quality start from Sophomore Thomas Browne (Pleasantville HS/Pleasantville, NY). Over his five innings of work, he scattered four hits while striking out seven and walking one. Westchester's offense flourished off of Browne's work. Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) picked up from where he left off last season going three for three with three RBIs and a double. Not to be outdone, Sophomores Weston Baronian (Pascack Valley HS/ River Vale, NJ) and Luisbert Frias (Port Chester HS/Port Chester, NY) would go two for three respectively with Baronian tacking on two RBIs and a triple.

Game 2: 16-1 Win

Game 2 the offense and pitching once again fired on all cylinders. The Viking pitching staff held Manhattanville to one hit while striking out nine. Jackson Kossow (Somers HS/Yorktown Heights, NY) earned the win with three innings pitched and striking out seven in his debut performance for SUNY WCC. Baronian, Ambrosecchia, and Frias helped the Viking offense in the 16 run victory by going a combined five for seven, five RBIs, and six runs scored. Freshman Tommy Poggi (Briarcliff HS/Briarcliff, NY) had a game high three hits with four RBIs and two doubles.

With February's weather being so touch and go, the Vikings next game will be on February 25th when they travel to North East, MD to take on Cecil College for a 4-game set spanning the weekend.
