Vikings Split Doubleheader & Series vs. Rockland

Valhalla, NY – Westchester split their weekend doubleheader with Mid-Hudson Conference foe Rockland on Saturday with a 2-1 win and a 6-0 loss. The split moves the Vikings to 34-7 on the year and 9-3 in conference play.

GAME 1: 2-1 W

A game of inches. Game one of the doubleheader could've easily went to either team solely on starting pitching. Jackson Kossow (Somers HS/Somers, NY) would come out on top to earn his fifth victory of the year going the distance, scattering 6 hits, striking out six, and allowing no earned runs. The two runs would come off the bat of Michael Manganiello (Archbishop Stepinac HS/Yonkers, NY) who blooped a base hit just over the second baseman's glove in the bottom of the second. Both offenses would be quieted due to the solid pitching performances. The 12 o'clock game lasted just over an hour and a half thanks to nine strike outs and 10 hits between the two opponents.

GAME 2: 6-0 L

In game two, the Vikings just couldn't gain any offensive momentum. Westchester would scatter five hits over the seven-inning game and strike out eight time against Hawks pitcher Nick Varano. Vikings starting pitcher Michael Cox (Walter Panas HS/Cortlandt Manor, NY) kept Westchester in the game going the distance and only allowing three earned runs in his second loss of the year. The lone SUNY WCC hits came from Tommy Poggi (Braircliff HS/Briarcliff, NY), Marc Stockhausen (St. Raymond's HS/Bronx, NY), Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY), Manganiello, and Mike Kocovic (Walter Panas HS/Garrison, NY).
