Game Recap: Baseball |

Unfortunate Ending. Vikings Eliminated From Region 15 Tournament

Suffern, NY – The Vikings baseball season came to an unfortunate end Friday evening after dropping a pair of games to SUNY Sullivan and Rockland Community College respectively. Westchester finishes the year off at 41-10.

GAME 1: 8-4 L

Westchester would start the game off with a 4-2 lead over the Generals heading into the fifth inning. From there, the Viking offense would go cold, thanks to a solid performance by Sullivan pitcher Gerard Santos. The Generals would go onto score eight runs off SUNY WCC starting pitcher Thomas Browne (Pleasantville HS/Pleasantville, NY) ending his day after seven innings of work. Westchester was led offensively by Weston Baronian's (Pascack Valley HS/River Vale, NJ) two-run homerun as well as a two-hit performance by Luisbert Frias (Port Chester HS/Port Chester, NY) and Tommy Poggi (Briarcliff HS/Briarcliff, NY). John Peteani (Saunders HS/Yonkers, NY) pitch two innings of scoreless relief.

GAME 2: 8-1 L

The blow of losing the first game seemed to have carried over to the elimination game for the Vikings. Offensively, Westchester would only scratch together four hits on the night and only scoring one thanks to an RBI from Michael Manganiello (Archbishop Stepinac HS/Yonkers, NY). Michael Ambrosecchia (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) would come in relief allowing one earned run over three and two-thirds innings. Rockland's offense got on the board early and they never looked back taking the game 8-1 to move to the championship game. With the loss, Westchester's remarkable season would come to an end.

One would say this was a season never to be forgotten. Multiple players ranked nationally in hitting and pitching statistical categories. 41 wins, second most in program history. A team that bonded since day one. The groundwork has been done to continue to move forward in years to come. The legacy of the sophomore class moving on has been etched into Viking history, only to one day, hopefully, to be rewritten.

Thank you to all who supported the Vikings throughout the season as we look to next season to make more fantastic memories!
