Suffern, NY – The Lady Vikings split their double duel this past Saturday against Queensborough and Kingsborough Community College over at Rockland Community College keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Game 1: 3-1 L vs. QCC
Westchester came out strong against the Tigers in the first set of their 12pm match taking the early 1-0 lead 25-21. From there, however, the Vikings found themselves just outside the win margin losing the next three sets 25-17, 25-21, and 25-22. Gianna DeChino would lead SUNY WCC with 31 assists with her teammate
Ziacera Sexton contributing a game-high 18 kills.
Julia Pawlowicz would add 14 kills of her own while having a team-high four aces.
The Vikings would look toward their second match of the day against Kingsborough to push their playoff dream into a reality.
Game 2: 3-0 W vs. KCC
SUNY WCC would avenge their loss against Queensborough with a 3-0 win over the Wave of Kingsborough Community College. The Vikings would take the first two sets easily by the scores of 25-16 and 25-15. The third and final set Kingsborough would make things a bit interesting however the Lady Vikings would hold off the Wave with a 25-22 victory sealing the win.
Once again
Ziacera Sexton would lead the charge for the Vikings with 20 kills and seven aces in the match followed by 26 assists by Gianna DeChino. Libero
Jourdan Washington would lead the team with 17 digs in the three-set match.
Westchester looks to make it two in-a-row with a home match tomorrow, October 8
th, against Mid-Hudson Conference foe Rockland Community College. It will also be the Vikings "Dig Pink Night" with proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Awareness Association. The Match will start at 7pm and will be streamed live via the Westchester Vikings Sports Network on Facebook.
