West Windsor, NJ – The Vikings fell in a doubleheader to Region 19 and East District foe Mercer County on Sunday 1-0 and 9-6 putting them at 4-2 on the season.
GAME 1: 1-0 L
Jackson Kossow would go the distance pitching six strong innings only allowing four hits and striking out six however one lone unearned run in the third would be the decision of the game. Four Vikings,
Tommy Poggi,
Brandon Hernandez,
Andrew Reyes, and
Derek Beloff-Davis would tally hits in the game however none would factor into the decision.
GAME 2: 9-6 L
Game two of the doubleheader saw a bit more action between both teams. SUNY WCC would get on the board first in the top of the first with two runs. The Vikings would add three more runs in the top of the fifth thanks to an
Andrew Reyes three-run home run, however, in the bottom of the inning, the Viking pitching would give up five runs to fall behind by one run. Mercer would add another three runs in the bottom half of the sixth to pad their lead to four heading into the last inning of play. Westchester would add a lone run in the top of the seventh however they couldn't complete the comeback. Poggi and
Thomas Wilson would aid in the loss with two-hits apiece along with Hernandez's two RBIs.
Michael Dawson would earn his first loss of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings and striking out two.
