Valhalla, NY – The Vikings opened their 2024 regular season with a 5-1 victory over Queensborough yesterday afternoon marking the biggest win over the Tigers since 2021.
Westchester would get on the board first in the 22
nd minute when
Jorge Ordonez netted the opening goal assisted by
Lenan Pepic. Queensborough would not go away quietly however scoring in the 24
th minute to tie the game at one. Both the Tigers and Vikings would go shot for shot before the first half horn sounded.
Miguel Diaz would stop five Queensborough shots eventually leading to his first victory of the year.
In the second half, SUNY WCC would come out strong. In the 49
th minute,
Joshua Leal would net his first goal of the year thanks to an assist by
Demoni Gordon. Following in the 64
th minute, Gordon would net his own goal to push the Viking lead to 3-1 thanks to an assist by
Oliver Tecuapetla. Westchester would seal the victory with two more goals in the 85
th and 86
th minute by Tecuapetla and
Christian Antunez.
Westchester would outshoot the Tigers 22 to 8 in the game.
The Vikings look to make it two in a row when they travel to Dutchess Community College tomorrow, September 12
th, for a 7pm game. The contest will be played at Millbrook High School in Millbrook, NY.
