Valhalla, NY- This past weekend the Lady Vikings traveled down to Garden City for a dual match against two tough teams. In game 1, the Vikings played Monroe University and this is a matchup that has given WCC problems for a few years. It was a back and forth game as Westchester and Monroe would exchange wins through 4 sets and get down to a rubber match. It was close but the Vikings would pull away late and win 15-11 on the back of great team play.
In game 2, Westchester would again be faced with a matchup that they have struggled with in recent years. They faced Nassau Community College and it was another match that went down to the wire. The WCC girls looked tired in the first set where Nassau rolled to a 25-16 win. However, Westchester would bounce back and take the next two, setting themselves up with a chance to win in the 4th set. Nassau would grind out a tough 25-23 win to set up another 5 set thriller. Unfortunately in their 10th set of the day the Vikings would run out of steam, and lose by a score of 15-13.
In the two games the standout performers were sophomores Ashley Webber (54 assists), and Yulis Vidal (21 kills).
The Lady Vikings will look to stay in form as they take on Raritan Valley twice this upcoming week, once on Tuesday followed by Thursday.
