Valhalla, NY - Yesterday, the Vikings of Westchester county took on the Wolverines from Essex county. It was a hard nosed physical battle from beginning to end.

 

Our lady Vikings got off to a great start taking a 10 point lead in the first with great team play and shooting. Towards the end of the first quarter the fouls began to play a huge factor in the game as many of the top Vikings players were in foul trouble from the first quarter on. This allowed Essex to make their way back into the game with many offensive rebounds and free throws. 

 

Still even with the large amounts of fouls being called no team was able to put the other away. WCC found themselves on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 1 in the 4th quarter. A foul on an Essex three point attempt changed the momentum and after that they pulled away late to beat Westchester by 10 and a final score of 68-58. 

 

Freshman Mariah Mills(New City, NY) scored her first college basket tonight and 28 points in the loss.

 

The Lady Vikings will be back in action again this Saturday as they take on Middlesex College in Viking Gymnasium at 12:00 PM.
