Lady Vikings Win in 18 Point Comeback!

Dec 8

This Saturday the Lady Vikings took on the Raptors of Montgomery College in Maryland. The Raptors entered this game 6-2 and on a 6 game win streak.

The first quarter was a poor shooting affair for both teams. No one could really find the bottom of the basket for most of it but Montgomery went on a 6-0 run to end the quarter giving them a 15-6 lead. The shooting woes would continue for WCC in the second quarter as they would be outscored by 9  and have an 18 point deficit to overcome at half time.

The Lady Vikings needed to come out with a different energy to be able to come back from this and they did just that. They put on their dynamic pressure and stifled the Raptors. Defense was gonna be the name of the game if they wanted to come back and only giving up 6 points in the third quarter definitely helped.

Most of the 4th quarter was played within a 5 point difference. A lot of back and forth and with about 2 minutes to go right in front of the Lady Vikings bench Mariah Mills in the midst of a tough shooting game took a 3 to put them up 5 and catapult WCC to their win. They successfully completed an 18 point comeback. Athletic Director Mike Belfiore said it was the largest comeback he had ever seen for the women's team in his time here.

Freshman Saniya Bell(Ossining, NY/Ossining High School) led the scoring and the comeback charge for the Vikings scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Right behind her was Sophomore Angelica Rios(Ossining, NY/Ossining High School) who had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Lady Vikings will look to make it 3 in a row as they travel down to New Jersey to take on Raritan Valley. This will take place Thursday, December 11th at 5:00 PM in North Branch, New Jersey.
