Purchase, NY - The SUNY Westchester Cross Country team kicked off their season at the Purchase Invitational in at SUNY Purchase on Saturday.  Three women and four men competed for the still forming team. 

Sophomore Vaerya Ospina led the way on the women's side stopping the clock at 19:54 for the 4 Kilometer race, good enough for 44th overall.  Next to cross the line was freshman Meaghan Collins who finished with a time of 22:15.  The 3rd finisher of the day was Ana Maria Perez who crossed the line with the time of 26:27.

For the men, Freshman Julian Salcedo was first for the team with with a time of 26:20 over the 6K race.  Mark Faranda, Me'kell Nube and Angel Lopez rounded out the team's finishers, but without a 5th finisher they were unable to factor into the team scoring. 

As both teams introduces new runners in the coming weeks, they hope to factor into team scoring for the meets ahead.  The team returns to action on September 13th as they travel to Patchogue, NY for the St. Joseph's invitational.  If you are interested in joining the cross country team please contact Coach McFarlane at karim.mcfarlane@sunywcc.edu
