Lady Vikings are Back in the Win Column with Back to Back Big Wins!

Jan 25

Valhalla, NY- It had been a tough start to 2026 for the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball Team. They had lost 5 straight to open the year including 2 games against nationally ranked opponents.  Things finally turned around for them on Thursday the 22nd   when the Falcons of Dutchess Community College travelled down to Valhalla for the teams first meeting of the season.

Westchester opened the game on a 25-2 run and never looked back from there winning by a score of 89-38. Freshman Saniya Bell(Ossining, NY/Ossining High School) led the way for WCC scoring 22 points. Right behind her was Angelica Rios(Ossining, NY/Ossining High School) who had a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Mariah Mills(New City, NY/North Rockland High School) recorded 11 assists which is her first double digit assist game of the season. Freshman guard Vanesta Silcott-Francis(Yonkers, NY/Yonkers High School) had a breakout and career high 15 point game to help the ladies surge to victory.

Fast forward to Saturday the 24th and the Lady Vikings had a rematch with the Golden Lions of Raritan Valley Community College who beat them 67-55 on December 11th. Seeking revenge WCC got off to a hot start and 9-0 run. Freshman guard Tiandra Martin(Jamaica/ Mount Vernon High School) was the catalyst in that run with a steal and 4 points. Westchester never surrendered the lead but never led by more than 10 until the very end. At one point Raritan even cut it to 3 points but a huge 3 by Silcott-Francis bumped it to 6 and SUNY WCC never took their foot off the gas from there. They won 60 to 53 and avenged their loss from earlier in the season.

Bell led the way with 22 points followed by Rios who had 19 points and 14 rebounds(back to back double-doubles). Martin also scored 11 which has given her double digit points in 9 out of her last 10 games.

Congrats to the Lady Vikings for getting back on track as they look to close out the end of the season strong. Good luck ladies!!
