Valhalla, NY- Yesterday, The Westchester Lady Vikings traveled up north to Herkimer, NY for a rematch with the Herkimer Generals. These two teams met earlier this year on December 3rd. Westchester won 61-48. The Generals looked for revenge and early it seemed like it was going to be a game. Both teams opened strong. Herkimer hit their first three 3's as WCC knocked down three of their first 4 shots. This action would continue on throughout the first quarter that finished with a score of 20-18 WCC.
It was more back and forth action in the second and with about 40 seconds the left in the half the Lady Vikings were up 1 when freshman Saniya Bell(Ossining, NY/Ossining High School) would continue her hot shooting and knock down back to back 3s to end the half giving them a 41-34 lead.
The Westchester Lady Vikings would have a stellar second half that propelled them to a dominant victory. They would open on a 19-6 run and never look back from there. They pushed the ball at such a great temp and it was an all around team win. They had 27 assists on their 34 made baskets and won the second half by a 20 point margin. This gave SUNY WCC a 87-60 win and their 7th win in a row.
Saniya Bell scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to continue her stellar season. Two of her fellow freshmen also scored in double figures. Tiandra Martin(Jamaica/Mount Vernon High School) had 17 points and 2 steals. Freshman forward Daveya Rodriguez(Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) flirted with a triple double as she had 13 points, 10 rebounds, dished out 8 assists and swiped 2 steals. Sophomore Angelica Rios(Ossining,NY/Ossining High School) was a point shy of a double double but she netted 9 points, snagged 14 boards and found her teammates 6 times in the win.
Again it was a great all around team for Westchester. They will be back in action this Friday for a rematch with the #6 Ranked Division 3 team in the country in Monroe Bronx. WCC won the game 50-48 less than two weeks ago. It will be at 6:00 PM at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, NY. Come out and support your Westchester Lady Vikings in their last regular season game before the playoffs!!
