Valhalla, NY - Sussex CC scored six runs in the fourth inning to defeat the Westchester CC Vikings 11–5 on Tuesday.
Westchester got on the board in the first inning when John Avellino(New Rochelle, NY/Salesian High School) singled to score a run. Sussex responded in the bottom of the second, taking a 4–1 lead with the help of two Westchester errors.
Westchester tied the game in the top of the third. Freddy Heymach(Pawling, NY/Pawling High School) doubled, Mercer Jordan(Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) singled, and Thomas Nunziata(Somers, NY/John F. Kennedy Preparatory School drove in a run on a fielder's choice to even the score at 4–4.
Sussex regained the lead in the bottom of the third, as an error allowed a run to score, making it 5–4.
The game broke open in the fourth inning when Sussex plated six runs on six hits. Suero doubled to drive in a run, Cross singled to bring in another, Struble and Oxner each added RBI doubles, and Gaboda capped the inning with a two-run home run to left field.
Peralta pitched three innings in relief for Westchester, allowing seven hits and seven runs (two earned) while striking out two and walking one. Grullon started for the Vikings, giving up three hits and four runs (none earned) over two innings, with one strikeout and two walks.
Westchester recorded nine hits in the game. Avellino, Austin Jorgensen(Poughkeepsie,NY/Our Lady Of Lourdes), and Gianni Generoso(Walter Panas High School) each had two hits, while Adriel Rodriguez(Yonkers, NY/Saunders High School), Jordan, Nunziata, and Heymach each drove in a run.
The Vikings will have to have a short memory as they return to action Thursday. They will take on Dominican University JV. First pitch will be at 3:30 PM home at Vikings Field. Come out and support!!
