Valhalla, NY - The bottom of the lineup didn't just contribute—it ignited everything.
Adriel Rodriguez(Yonkers, NY/Saunders High School), Brandon Davis(Danbury, CT/Danbury High School), and Jason Jackson(Arlington High School) set the tone, combining for five of Westchester's nine hits while scoring four pivotal runs as the Westchester CC Vikings powered past UConn Avery Point 2026, 9–4, on Sunday.
Westchester came out aggressive and never let up.
In the top of the first, the Vikings applied immediate pressure. Mercer Jordan(Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) was hit by a pitch, Gianni Generoso(Walter Panas High School) drew a walk, and Oscar Almanzar(Dominican Republic) put the ball in play to keep things moving. With the defense rattled, Almanzar would take off for second allowing Jordan to sneak home giving WCC early momentum that they would hang on to all game.
The Vikings kept rolling in the second.
Austin Jorgensen(Poughkeepsie, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) delivered a clutch double to stretch the lead to 5–1, and the offense continued to grind in the third. Freddy Heymach(Pawling, NY/Pawling High School) lined a single and John Avellino(New Rochelle, NY/Salesian High School) worked a walk, extending the advantage and forcing UConn Avery Point to scramble early.
On the mound, Vasili Kelesidis(Stamford, CT/Stamford Connecticut) delivered a strong, steady outing. The right-hander worked 6.2 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out four and walking two. Rielly Deneen(North Salem, NY/North Salem High School) and Christian Peralta(East Elmhurst, NY/Christ The King) took over in relief and closed it out, keeping any comeback hopes in check.
UConn Avery Point showed flashes late with home runs in the 6th and 8th inning but it just wasn't enough. Westchester's offense remained relentless throughout.
Heymach led the charge, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Rodriguez and Jackson each added multi-hit performances, fueling a lineup that produced from top to bottom. Defensively, the Vikings were just as sharp, turning three double plays to shut down any momentum.
From the first pitch to the final out, Westchester controlled the game—but it was the bottom of the lineup that sparked the surge and carried the Vikings to a decisive victory.
