Tom Nugent enters his second year as Head Coach of the Westchester Community College Cross Country team. Under Nugent’s tutelage the 2016 men’s team won the Mid-Hudson Championship for the first time since 1969. The sport was being held at the college for the first time since 1977 after being discontinued. Nugent had prior college Track and Field experience as the Head Indoor Track Coach at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York.
Nugent held numerous positions as a High School coach. He was the head man at Archbishop Stepinac for seven years in Cross-Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track. He also held Head Track positions at Pleasantville High School, Fieldston and The Hackley School. Nugent served as an assistant coach at the Colligiate School. Nugent was also the Head Golf Coach at Hackley and was named The Journal News Coach of the Year for the 2006 season. While at Stepinac he produced a three-time All-American sprinter and 2000 National Indoor 200-meter champion Carlos Bedoya who later competed at Villanova.
A number of his athletes competed collegiately in both Track and Field and Golf. Nugent competed athletically at Scarsdale High School in Track and Cross-Country earning eight All-County nods. His college career included competing for Mount San Antonio College in Walnut California and the University of Houston.
Academically Nugent holds an AA degree from Westchester Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University and a Master’s of Arts degree in Counseling from Manhattan College. He also serves as an Academic Counselor at Westchester Community College. He resides in Ardsley, NY with his wife Theresa and his daughter Katherine and son Christopher.
