Michael Belfiore

Since joining Westchester Community College as Director of Athletics in September of 2015, Michael Belfiore has overseen one of the most exciting chapters in the storied history of the Viking Athletic Department. Under Belfiore's leadership, Westchester CC brought back Men's & Women's Basketball as varsity sports, and added Cross Country, Track & Field, and ESports as the department's newest varsity programs.

While the department has expanded, the existing athletic programs have continued their successful traditions as Westchester CC earned three consecutive Mid-Hudson Conference All Sports Trophies. An incredible 15 Viking teams have won Mid-Hudson Conference Championships under Belfiore's watch, on top of three Region XV Champions, and an NJCAA ESports championship during the program's inaugural season in 2020.

Belfiore has also overseen exciting initiatives such as a department-wide academic support program called V-CASE (Vikings Collaborative Academic Support Environment), the annual Viking Classic Golf Outing that has raised tens of thousands of dollars per year for athletic scholarship funds, and a rebranding effort that developed a new athletic department logo and mascot, Chester The Viking.

Belfiore brings more than 15 years of experience working at various collegiate athletic levels including stops at Adelphi University, Hunter College and Bronx Community College.

Prior to his time here at WCC, Belfiore served as the Director of Athletics at Bronx Community College for three years.  There he was highly successful in restructuring the athletic program to improve overall operations through policy and budget reform.  Academic support for student-athletes was a high priority from the start.  Over a 3 year period, Belfiore implemented the Bronco Academic Support experience (B.A.S.E.) designed to work with student-athletes to improve their performance in the classroom and take charge of their academic success over time in order to graduate.

He oversaw the development of a comprehensive athletics website in order to better market the program and provide a better overall student-athlete experience.  Belfiore took pride in expanding programing and special events including the re-introduction of the Sports Hall of Fame and the Run the Bronx Community Road Race.   To help supplement his staff, he introduced a first class internship program in cooperation with St. John's University sports management students.   He also spent time as an adjunct professor within the Physical Education department.  Before his time at BCC, he served as the Associate Athletic Director & Assistant Track & Field/Cross Country coach at Hunter College for five years. His responsibilities included supervising the recreation, intramurals and fitness programs, athletic compliance, special events, and advising the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. He was an integral part in organizing and planning many student development workshops and events as well.

Prior to his time in CUNY, Michael also spent five years as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Head Men's and Women's Track/Cross Country coach at Adelphi University. During his five years there, he was successful in expanding intramural offerings as well as starting up a sport club program. With his assistance, the introduction of a Women's Field Hockey Club later evolved into a successful NCAA Division II program. Under Michael's supervision, the Track & Field team also developed from a program with several individuals gaining regional and national recognition with numerous All-Conference and All-Region runners.

Belfiore, a Liberty, NY native, graduated from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education in 2000 and a Master of the Arts in Recreation Management in 2002. He currently resides in Poughkeepsie, NY with his wife Kimberly and two daughters, Marisa and Emily.
