Box Score 2 (New York, NY) - Facing two of the strongest teams in Region XV with important post-season implications on the line, the Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball team battled every set of Saturday's tri-match with Fashion Institute of Technology and Borough of Manhattan Community College, but the Vikings ultimately dropped both matches, 3-1 to BMCC and 3-2 to FIT. The tri-matches were held at BMCC. With the losses, WCC falls to 7-12 overall, and 7-10 in Region XV.
WCC dropped the opener 15-25, 25-21, 14-25, and 25-9. The match against FIT proved to be among the most exciting of the season as the Vikings dropped the opening set 25-23 before returning the favor, winning set #2 25-23. After losing the third set, 25-20, WCC battled back to take the fourth set, 25-21, forcing a fifth and deciding set. FIT won the final set, 15-4 to earn the win.
Against BMCC (11-3, 11-3 Region XV),
Alysha Owens had 13 kills, seven digs, and two service aces, while
Rachel Mendes added 25 digs, and three services.
Lindsay Leggio registered 17 assists.
Owens had another outstanding match against FIT (8-17, 6-8 Region XV) as she had a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. Leggio added 30 assists, four kills, and two service aces.
Crystal Alcantara had a fine match with nine kills, five blocks, and four service aces.
WCC now enters the post-season, beginning with Tuesday night's Mid-Hudson Conference Championship. The fourth-seeded Vikings travel to Rockland Community College to face top-seeded Rockland Community College at 6:00 p.m. Should WCC win the match, they will compete for the Mid-Hudson Conference Championship against the winner of the second semifinal match between Ulster Community College and Orange Community College. The Championship Match will take place immediately following the semifinal round.
