Women's Volleyball battles through three weekend matches

Oct 9

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 (Valhalla, NY) - The Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball team entered the home stretch of the 2017 season this past weekend facing some of the toughest competition on their schedule. While the Vikings battled through each match, WCC was swept by Region XV powerhouse Nassau Community College, and then fell 3-1 to Suffolk Community College on Saturday. On Sunday, WCC traveled to Rockland Community College to face Bronx CC, where they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker. With the weekend defeats, WCC is now 5-8 overall and 5-7 in Region XV play.

Nassau CC (15-8, 8-1 Region XV) defeated WCC 25-15, 25-17, and 25-11.

Against Suffolk CC (4-8, 4-5 Region XV), the host Sharks opened play with a 25-19 win, before Westchester CC returned the favor in the second set. From there, Suffolk earned 25-17 and 25-16 wins to take the match.

The Vikings' weekend-ending match with Bronx Community College (6-10, 6-8 Region XV) proved to be one of the most exciting matches of the 2017 season. Bronx stormed through the first two sets, winning 25-19 and 25-16. However, WCC battled back valiantly, winning the next two sets 25-19 and 25-18, and forcing a fifth and deciding set. During a back-and-forth finishing set, Bronx CC earned the win with a 15-12 finish.

WCC returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when the Vikings travel to Sullivan Community College for a 7:00 p.m. start.
