Box Score (Valhalla, NY) - Sophomore
Tremaine Fraiser scored a game-high 23 points, including a 17-point outburst during the first half, and fellow sophomore
Randy Stephens added 16 points as the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team capped an incredible week with a 75-64 win over visiting Rowan College at Burlington County on Saturday at Viking Gymnasium. With the win, the Vikings improve to an impressive 4-0 start to the 2017-18 season, including three wins during a six-day span this week.
The start was a sloppy one for both teams as the Vikings took to the court for the second time in three days. Rowan (1-2) held an early edge, scoring the game's first four points, and led 6-3 just over five minutes in before WCC went on a run, scoring six straight points after a time-out, including two consecutive dunks on fast breaks. Westchester extended the lead to as many as 13 points with 6:30 to play in the first half, before a Rowan run made it a seven-point game with 3:26 to play. A late Viking run of their own gave the hosts a 39-26 lead at halftime.
The second half saw WCC sizzle at the start. A
Raykwon Fenton three-pointer with 15:17 to play gave Westchester a 20-point lead, a lead that would extend to as high as 22 points, 56-24 with 14:49 remaining. However, the Barons would not go down without a fight. During a game marked by numerous turnovers by both teams, Rowan methodically chipped away at the lead, and trimmed the deficit to as few as eight points with five minutes to play. However, the game would get no closer as two clutch late baskets by sophomore
Brandon Martin sealed the win for Westchester.
Martin finished the game with 15 points. Also for WCC, sophomore
Pierre Lys had a terrific all-around game, scoring eight points, and making several key defensive stops.
After a busy week, Westchester CC enjoys some downtime as they have six days to prepare for their next game. The Vikings return to action on Friday, Nov. 17 when they head to Randolph, New Jersey for their first away games of the season, when they compete at the County College of Morris Tournament. WCC faces the host Titans on Friday at 5:00 p.m., before battling Rowan College at Gloucester County on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
