Vikings Dismiss Senator Attack

Dec 5

Box Score December 5, 2017 - Valhalla, NY

The men's basketball team faced their toughest competition to date as the team prevailed over Ulster on Tuesday, 73-61.  Though Westchester led wire to wire, the Senator defense held the blue and gold to their lowest point total of the season. WCC did rely on their trademark tough defense though to keep UCC at bay the entire night.

The game started off with both teams having trouble converting shots as Westchester held an early 6-5 lead.  WCC then went on a 14-2 run to lead 20-7 mid-way through the first half.  A 10-3 run by Ulster cut the lead to 6 with 5:50 remaining, but the Vikings kept the cushion to enter the locker room at intermission with a 33-26 lead.

Ulster quickly cut that deficit down to four points scoring early in the 2nd, but WCC pulled away again as they were up by as many as 14 at 49-35 with 11:48 to go.  The Senators hung around and with 7:45 to go they hit two straight 3-pointers to close within 7 points at 58-51.  They would get no closer though as with time winding down, Tremaine Fraiser  (Trinity Catholic/Port Chester, NY) nailed a shot from outside the arc to put the Vikings back out front, 64-54.   Randy Stephens (Mt. Vernon HS/Mt. Kisco, NY) sealed the deal in the final minute when he capped off a steal with a left handed dunk off the turnover.

Stephens led Westchester with 16 points as Brandon Martin (Mt. Vernon HS/Bronx, NY) added 14.  Gabriel Cruz (In-tech Academy/Bronx, NY) was the only other scorer in double digits with 10 points on the night.

The Vikings now move to 9-0 on the season and return to action on Thursday, December 7th as they welcome the Colts of SUNY Orange.  Tip off is at 7pm.
