Orange Crush: Men's Basketball scores season-high 126 points for 10th straight win

Dec 7

Box Score (Valhalla, NY) - Six Vikings scored in double figures, including a team-high 23 points by sophomore Brandon Martin, as the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team crushed SUNY Orange, 126-80 on Thursday night at Viking Gymnasium. With the win, WCC improves to 10-0 to open the 2017-18 season.

It was a game marked by runs ... for WCC, that is. Westchester opened the game on an 8-2 run, and then scored 28 consecutive points to open a 36-2 lead. If that was not enough, WCC increased the advantage to 51-6 with eight minutes remaining in the first half. A late SUNY Orange (4-7) barrage of three-pointers made things closer, as the Vikings enjoyed a 65-23 lead at halftime.

The second half featured much of the same as Westchester scored their 100th point with 9:44 remaining, broke their season-high for scoring, by hitting 120 points with three minutes to play, and led by as many as 58 points before a late SUNY Orange run made things a bit closer as the Colts hit 13 three-pointers during the game.

Aside from Martin's heroics, sophomore Raykwon Fenton scored 16 points, sophomore Gabriel Cruz added 15 points, Maxx Miller and Tremaine Fraiser chipped in 13 points apiece, and Derrick Hamlin added 11 points, while Pierre Lys chipped in 10.

WCC now goes on a break for final exams, before returning to the court on Saturday, Dec. 16 when they travel to Suffolk Community College for a 3:00 p.m. game. The match-up will be the first of four straight games away from Viking Gymnasium for WCC. Westchester returns home on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they host Kingsborough Community College at 1:00 p.m.
