Box Score May 11, 2017 – Valhalla, NY
The Region XV Baseball tournament underwent some scheduling changes due to the expected inclement weather this weekend and the first round of the tournament was moved to the higher seed. The tournament was originally slated to take place at SUNY Sullivan from May 11-13th. Top seeded Westchester was pitted against the #4 seed Rockland Hawks as #2 Sullivan was set to take on #3 Dutchess.
Rockland got on the board first as they scored a run in the top of the first. WCC quickly answered back with a run in the bottom of the inning when Paul Franzese (Somers HS/Somers, NY) laced a hit into right center to get WCC on the board. Westchester would take the lead the second thanks to RBI's from Alonso Tenya (Lima, Peru/Scarsdale, NY) and Scottie Giordano (Croton Harmon HS/Croton, NY) on consecutive doubles.
Giordano also got the start for the Vikes and settled down after the first inning, holding RCC scoreless inning after inning. The Rockland starter was equal to the task as the teams traded zeros until the 8th where Giordano got out of a bases loaded jam to keep the Hawks at bay. He then set Rockland down in order in the 9th for the complete game win. Over 9 innings, he scattered six hits, striking out five. He was also 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Tenya who got the start in left field, was also 2 for 4 with an RBI as Alex Borman (Huntington HS/Huntington, NY) had two hits including a double.
The Vikings now move on to the second round winners game against Sullivan, who won their first round game versus Dutchess 15-14 in 10 innings. The game will be held at Sullivan at 1pm on Friday.
