Box Score 2 (Valhalla, NY) - Despite an 0-2 start to the 2017 season, the Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball team has shown signs of enormous improvement under first year Head Coach
Taneisha Cantave. During 3-1 losses against Rockland Community College on Tuesday and Orange Community College on Thursday, the Vikings won a set in each match, and battled to the end.
WCC earned a 25-21 opening set win against Rockland CC, before dropping the next three sets 25-8, 25-20, and 25-23. Against Orange CC, the Vikings lost 28-26 to open the match, evened things at 1-1 with a 25-18 second-set win, but lost the final two sets 25-11 and 25-15.
Leading the way for WCC thus far are sophomore
Rachel Mendes, who has amassed seven kills, nine attacks, five digs, and a service ace. Sophomore
Alysha Owens is off to a fine start with eight kills, 16 attacks, two assists, and three digs. Freshman
Madison Young has chipped in nine kills, 11 attacks, two solo blocks, and four digs. In addition, freshman
Lindsay Leggio leads the Vikings with 26 assists.
WCC enters the weekend seeking their first win of the year when they travel to Dutchess Community College for an 11:00 a.m. start on Saturday. The Vikings return home Tuesday night when they host Monroe (Bronx) at 7:00 p.m.
