Box Score 2 (Suffern, NY) - The Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball team continued its impressive start to the 2017 season with a split of a tri-match of Kingsborough Community College and Queensborough Community College on Saturday. The matches were held at Rockland Community College.
The Vikings opened play with a 25-19, 25-15, and 25-7 loss to Queensborough, who is undefeated in Region XV play this season, and then outlasted Kingborough in a five-set thriller, 25-16, 22-25, 19-25, 25-13, and 16-14. With the split, WCC is now 4-3 with all seven contests a part of Region XV play.
Against Queensborough (6-2, 6-0 Region XV), the dynamic duo of
Madison Young and
Alysha Owens continued their outstanding play, combining for 17 kills and 11 digs. Young had nine kills and five digs, while Owens contributed eight kills and six digs.
Also for the Vikings,
Rachel Mendes was credited with a team-high 11 digs, while
Lindsay Leggio contributed 14 assists.
The win over Kingsborough proved to be the most exciting match of the season as three Vikings amassed double-doubles. Leggio enjoyed her finest match of the season with 20 digs and a career-high 50 assists. Owens added a team-high 24 kills and 10 digs. Mendes enjoyed an outstanding overall match with 19 kills and 19 digs, and Young chipped in 15 kills.
Westchester returns to action on Tuesday, September 26 when the Vikings travel to Ulster Community College for a 7:00 p.m. start.
