Men's Basketball vs. Kingsborough

Men's Basketball Hangs on for 74-66 win over Kingsborough

Jan 13

Box Score (Valhalla, NY) - Raykwon Fenton scored a season-high 21 points, and Drew Bronen added a season-high 10 points, including six consecutive free throws down the stretch as the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team overcame a gutsy effort from Kingsborough Community College, winning 74-66 on Saturday at Viking Gymnasium. With the win, WCC has still not been outscored by an opponent during 13 games this season.

It was a game of runs as WCC used two big runs during the first half to try to put the game away early. After a lot of back and forth play, a 9-0 run gave the Vikings a six-point lead midway through the second half, and a late 10-0 run extended the lead to as high as 13 points. Westchester led 40-27 at halftime, thanks in part to six three-pointers, including four by Fenton.

Twice during the second half, WCC led by as many as 15 points, but a 9-0 run late in the game brought Kingsborough to within four. However, as the Wave fouled late in the game to try to gain possessions, Bronen failed to miss a free throw, and the Vikings hit their final 10 free throws as a team to ice the game. Overall, Westchester converted 17 of its 20 free throw attempts,

Also for WCC, Pierre Lys scored 13 points, while Gabriel Cruz and Tremaine Fraiser added 10 points apiece.

Up next for Westchester Community College is a home game on Thursday, Jan. 18 when the Vikings welcome Nassau Community College at 8:00 p.m. The game will be the second half of a doubleheader with the WCC Women's Basketball team.
