Strong Second Half leads Men's Basketball past Bronx CC

Jan 7

Box Score (Valhalla, NY) - For the first time all season, the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team trailed a game at halftime ... and for the first time all season, the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team rallied in the second half for a win. 10 different Vikings scored points, including five in double figures, as WCC overcame a 33-32 halftime deficit to defeat a scrappy Bronx Community College team, 81-71 on Sunday at Viking Gymnasium. With the win, WCC still has not been outscored by an opponent during a game this season.

It was a battle from start-to-finish as an impressive Bronx CC (6-9) defensive effort kept things close throughout the game. It was not until midway through the second half that WCC was able to create some distance as the Vikings went on a 12-2 run to turn a 47-44 lead into a 59-46 advantage, a lead that WCC would not relinquish despite the best efforts by the visiting Broncos.

Sophomore Gabriel Cruz led the Vikings with 15 points, while Tremaine Fraiser and Randy Stephens added 13 points each. Sophomore Raykwon Fenton played perhaps his best game of the season, scoring 12 points - 10 of which came during the second half - but Fenton also made several key plays away from the ball during the game to help lead the Vikings to victory. Also for WCC, Brandon Martin chipped in 11 points.

After two wins in 24 hours, WCC now can enjoy a bit of a break as the Vikings do not play again until Thursday, Jan. 11 when they host Touro College for a 7:00 p.m. start.
