Jose Delacruz (New York, NY/George Washington HS) turned in his finest pitching performance of the season, but the Westchester Community College Baseball team lost 10-2 to Sussex Community College on Thursday at Viking Stadium. With the loss, Westchester falls to 7-6 for the 2018 season.
Playing less than 24 hours after an emotional walk-off win over Suffolk Community College, Westchester fell behind early, and was never able to get on track. The Vikings allowed at least one run during six of the seven innings played. They had runners in scoring position throughout the game, but were unable to get back into it. Down 2-0 right away, Giordano led off the bottom of the first inning with a single, and advanced on a Fielder's Choice. A
Paul Franzese (Somers, NY/Somers HS) RBI Fielder's Choice brought Giordano home to make it 2-1. However, Sussex scored three more times during the top of the second inning to blow the game wide open, and never looked back.
Giordano led off the fifth inning with a walk, and was brought home when
Miguel Toribio-Matias (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane HS) walked with the bases loaded later on in the inning.
Westchester Community College returns to action on Saturday, March 30 when the Vikings are set to battle UConn-Avery Point for the second time during as many Saturdays for a noon doubleheader. The games are slated to be played at UConn-Avery Point, but field conditions could change the location. An announcement regarding the status of the game will be made on all Westchester Community College Athletic Social Media.
