St. Olmo’s Fire: Sophomore Pitcher Shuts Out Orange to lead WCC Baseball to its third straight win

Apr 7

Box Score (Valhalla, NY) - After all of the excitement after witnessing a perfect game during the opener of Westchester Community College's doubleheader against Orange Community College on Saturday, sophomore pitcher Triston Olmo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley HS) turned in a gem of his own, retiring the first 10 Orange batters and tossing a shutout as Westchester CC swept the twinbill with a 6-0 win over the visiting Colts at Viking Stadium. With their third straight win, Westchester improves to 11-7 overall, and is now 3-0 in both Mid Hudson Conference and Region XV play.

For the second straight game, Westchester stormed ahead early, this time scoring twice in the first inning, thanks to an RBI double by Paul Franzese (Somers, NY/Somers HS), and a Christian Lovecchio (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla HS) single to bring Franzese home.

The Vikings scored three more times in the fourth inning when two straight hit batters and an Orange error loaded the bases for Sergio Osorio (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla HS) who singled home two runs to make it 4-0. Two batters later, James Houlahan (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland HS) brought home CJ Sager (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) to extend the lead to five.

In the sixth inning, a Houlahan single brought Osorio home to close out the scoring.

The Vikings had only six hits, but five walks, two hit batsmen, and three Orange errors gave the Vikings several opportunities for clutch hitting during which Westchester came through.

The support was more than enough for Olmo, who was brilliant once again, allowing only three hits, while striking out five.

These two teams face each other once again on Sunday, April 8 when they meet at SUNY Orange for a single game beginning at noon to close the regular season series between them.
