(Valhalla, NY) - One year ago, on 'Sophomore Night,' the Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball team gave their graduating class an evening they will never forget when the Vikings stunned SUNY Ulster in a 3-0 sweep to break an 11-match losing streak to the Senators, and give the Vikings all of the momentum they needed to send shock-waves through the Mid-Hudson Conference days later when Westchester captured its first conference crown in 17 years. One year later, if the season result is going to be the same, Tuesday's 'Sophomore Night' display was certainly the right start. Sophomore
Melody Pabon (Bronx, NY/Celia Cruz) commemorated the special occasion with a team-high nine kills, to go with six assists, and freshman
Cristina Stasolla (Yonkers, NY/Maria Regina) turned in a seven service ace, 11-assist masterpiece as Westchester CC defeated Sullivan Community College 3-0. With the win, the Vikings are now 5-10 over, 5-9 in Region XV play, and 3-5 in the Mid-Hudson Conference.
Westchester notched its 14th win during its last 15 matches against Sullivan, dating back to 2013 with a 25-18, 25-11, 30-28 victory in front of the largest crowd to pack Viking Gymnasium this season.

Stasolla was particularly noteworthy, almost single-handedly serving the Vikings to the second set victory as she was at the service line for 13 consecutive Westchester points during one stretch, and she added two kills and five digs to a terrific overall match. Pabon also had four digs and three service aces.
Also for Westchester, freshman
Stefania Rinaldi (White Plains, NY/Valhalla HS) - playing in front of her High School team who attended the match - registered seven kills, 10 assists, five service aces, and hit a season-best .429.
Sophomores
Gabriela Faria (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS),
Tia Sue (Sleepy Hollow, NY/Sleepy Hollow HS), and
Jurnee Reid (Sleepy Hollow, NY/Ossining HS) also played key roles in the Westchester win. Faria registered five kills and two solo blocks, Sue added five digs, and Reid had three kills and two digs.
Westchester Community College is still in the hunt for a post-season bid in both the Mid-Hudson Conference and Region XV. The Vikings return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when Westchester competes in a tri-match with Nassau Community College and Suffolk Community College at Suffolk CC. Westchester then returns home one last time on Tuesday, Oct. 15 when the Vikings host Rockland Community College at 7:00 p.m.
