(New Rochelle, NY) - Freshman
Donjeta Prelvukaj (Bronx, NY/St. Catharine) continued her incredible start to the 2019-2020 season leading all scorers with 22 points, three assists, and two steals, and freshman
Eva Duffy (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills HS) and
Tina Fabrizi (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck HS) scored eight points apiece, but the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball team lost for the second time in as many days to an NJCAA Division I program, this time an 89-48 defeat to Monroe College on Sunday at Monroe to conclude the 2019 Mustang Classic. With the loss, the Vikings are now 1-4.
After a slow start to the game that saw Westchester fall behind 24-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Vikings spent much of the next 20 minutes going toe-to-toe with their powerhouse opponent, as the teams played even throughout the second quarter, and through much of the third stanza. However, Monroe's size and depth took over during the fourth quarter as the Mustangs enjoyed a 22-8 edge during the final stanza to clinch the victory.
Rebounding was the major difference on Sunday as Monroe held a 73-16 edge on the boards overall, including a 35-2 offensive rebounding advantage.
Westchester enjoyed its best long-range shooting game of the season, converting 10 off their 33 three-point attempts, including a 6 for 12 effort by Prelvukaj from three-point range.
Westchester returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 12 when the Vikings travel to Dutchess Community College for a 5:00 p.m. start.
