(Paramus, NJ) - If the opening weekend of the 2019-2020 season was headlined by the ability of the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team to score points in bunches, the Vikings' first road trip of the season was marked by the team's aptitude to defend the basket with the same level of intensity. At Bergen Community College on Tuesday night, Westchester scored plenty of points during a 76-60 win over the Bulldogs, but it was an 11:48 stretch to close the first half that told the story. It was during that frame that Westchester failed to yield a single Bergen point, and in the process, extended their lead to a 44-17 halftime advantage before cruising to victory.
WCC held a lead of 30+ points for much of the final 20 minutes before the 16-point final score.
Four Vikings scored in double figures, including freshman
Noe Fleurimond (Greenburgh, NY/Woodlands HS) led Westchester with 14 points, while freshman
Justin Mazyck (Bronx, NY/Stevenson HS) chipped in a season-high 12 points.
Also for the Vikings, freshman
Dimaunie Meredith (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Dobbs Ferry HS) had 10 points, and freshman
Daniel Barrera (Elmsford, NY/Alexander Hamilton HS) added 13 points.
Westchester shot 53% from the floor, compared to 32% for Bergen, and the Vikings held a 47-28 rebounding edge.
Westchester CC returns home on Thursday, Nov. 7 when the Vikings host Essex Community College at 7:00 p.m.
