Tuane Tapper (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon HS) scored his sixth goal of the 2019 season, and sophomore
Guilherme Griza Novo Hamburgo-RS (Brazil)/Colegio Marista Pio XII) made a season-high 11 saves, but the Westchester Community College Men's Soccer team fell 3-1 to Nassau Community College, the nation's third-ranked team on Saturday afternoon at Nassau Community College.
With the loss, the Vikings are now 4-2 overall and 3-2 in NJCAA Region XV play.
In a rematch of the Semifinal Round of the 2018 NJCAA Region XV Men's Soccer Tournament - won 3-0 by Nassau CC - the Vikings went toe-to-toe with Nassau for most of the first half, with the Lions breaking through at 28:20 to take a 1-0 lead. The back-breaker came less than two minutes before halftime when Nassau scored again to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Nassau scored again in the 72nd minute to make it 3-0. Finally, in the 83rd minute, Tapper scored off of a spectacular individual effort for Westchester's only goal.
Griza was spectacular for the Vikings, stopping 11 out of 14 shots, many of which were golden scoring opportunities for Nassau CC.
Nassau outshot Westchester 14-5 and had six corner kicks, compared to Westchester's four.
Westchester CC returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 24 when the Vikings return to Mid-Hudson Conference play when they host Orange Community College for a 4:00 p.m. start.
