(Valhalla, NY) - For a team averaging nearly 85 points per game for the 2019-2020 season, to start a contest by going scoreless for more than six minutes of play must have seemed like an eternity for the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team. The same could be said for their opponents, Bronx Community College, who spent the final 34 minutes of play on Thursday night simply trying to keep up. Freshman
Willie Davis (Bronx, NY/Logan HS) scored 14 points on 5 for 6 shooting, and 11 different Vikings scored points as the Vikings notched their ninth straight win with am 80-66 win over Bronx CC on Thursday night at Viking Gymnasium. With the win, Westchester is now 16-4 for the 2019-2020 season.
The number nine that Westchester extended its winning streak to with the win, carried a lot of significance on Thursday. Westchester missed its first nine shots, and Bronx (9-10) jumped out to a 9-0 lead, carrying play for much of the early going. However, once the Vikings got things going, they spent long stretches of their own scoring at will. Once the Vikings finally scored to make it a 9-2 game with 13:55 to play in the first half, Westchester went on a 22-4 run. When
Joe Zayer (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South HS) converted a lay-up with 7:39 to play until halftime, Westchester led 22-13. The Vikings led by as many as 13 points late in the first half, before taking a 39-28 lead into the break.

The second half could not have started off better for Westchester as the Vikings scored the first 14 points of the second stanza, over a 3:21 span, to make it a 53-28 game, and all but put things away.
Three Vikings scored in double figures as Zayer added 13 points, while Justin Huger (Harlem, NY/Thurgood Marshall HS) added 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Also for the Vikings, sophomore
James Brady (Yonkers, NY/Mount Saint Michael) added nine points and nine rebounds.
Westchester won the game in large part thanks to a 54-34 edge in rebounds, and a 25-21 advantage in turnovers. Both teams shot 40% from the floor.
Westchester Community College will look to make it 10 straight wins on Saturday, Jan. 18 when the Vikings host Mercer County Community College at 3:00 p.m.
