(Randolph, NJ) - Freshman
Noe Fleurimond (Greenburgh, NY/Woodlands HS) scored a team-high 18 points - shooting 10 for 10 from the floor - and added seven rebounds, while sophomore
Joe Zayer (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South HS) and freshman
Daniel Barrera (Elmsford, NY/Alexander Hamilton HS) added 16 points and 15 points, respectively, but the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end with a 94-88 loss to County College of Morris on Thursday night at CCM. With the loss, Westchester is now 16-5 for the 2019-2020 season.
The loss was Westchester's first of 2020, and their first defeat in exactly 60 days, dating back to a 77-72 loss to Monroe Community College on Nov. 24, 2019.
Westchester got off to a slow start, failing to score for the first five minutes of play, which allowed CCM to pull away quickly. Westchester faced a double-digit deficit for only the second time this season, and fell behind by 20 for the first time this season. A late surge brought the Vikings back into the game, as Westchester trailed 49-35 at halftime.
Westchester stormed back over the final 20 minutes, as Zayer and Fleurimond scored 10 points apiece during the second half, and sophomore
Anthony Monti (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) scored all 10 of his points during the second half. He also added four rebounds and four assists. The Vikings tied the score late in the game, but two late CCM three-pointers allowed the hosts to win the game.
11 different Vikings scored during the game.
Westchester shot 44% from the floor, compared to 55% by CCM, and the Vikings were out-rebounded 45-44.
Westchester CC returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 30 when the Vikings host Rowan College - Burlington County at 7:00 p.m.
