(Selden, NY) - Freshman
Jailine Ruiz (Bronx, NY/William Cullen Bryant HS) turned in another fine performance with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, and fellow freshman
Tina Fabrizi (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck HS) added 15 points and five rebounds, but the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball team dropped a 48-45 heartbreaker to Suffolk CC on Saturday afternoon at Suffolk. With their third straight loss, the Vikings are now 10-15 for the 2019-2020 season.
It was a defensive struggle reminiscent of Westchester's 45-39 win over the Sharks on Dec. 8 as neither team was able to take control at any point. The Vikings trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, but a terrific second stanza saw Westchester take a 27-19 lead into halftime. The Sharks battled back to take a 37-36 lead into the fourth quarter, and a back-and-forth final quarter saw the Sharks take the lead for good in the final seconds. One last Westchester chance to tie the score fell short.
Also for the Vikings, freshman
Marisol Rodriguez (New York, NY/HS for Economics and Finance) continued her outstanding late-season play with seven points, three rebounds, and three assists.
Westchester CC returns to action for the final week of the regular season when the Vikings host Ulster Community College on Feb. 18 at 5:00 p.m. The Vikings downed Ulster 66-44 on Nov. 10.
