(Loch Sheldrake, NY) - Freshman
Jailine Ruiz (Bronx, NY/William Cullen Bryant HS) scored a team-high 19 points, and added five rebounds, and freshman
Tina Fabrizi (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck HS) enjoyed one of her finest games of the 2019-2020 season with 18 points - on 5 for 10 shooting, five assists, and three steals, but the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball team saw their season come to an end with a 71-55 loss to SUNY Orange during the Region XV Division II Semifinals on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Vikings end their season with an 11-17 overall record.
Playing on the neutral floor at Sullivan Community College, and only 25 days after a 33-point loss to second-seeded Orange at home that saw Westchester trail by more than 20 points mid-way through the first half, Westchester hung tough for much of their first post-season appearance since Women's Basketball was reinstated at Westchester CC three seasons ago. Westchester trailed 20-17 at the end of the first quarter, 34-28 at halftime, and cut the deficit to four points midway through the third quarter before Orange was finally able to pull away late in the third stanza.
Also for Westchester, freshman
Eva Duffy (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills HS) turned in the best performance of her young career, with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, hitting a career-best four three-pointers.
Westchester shot 27% from the floor, while Orange converted 40% of their field goal opportunities, and the Vikings were out-rebounded 53-34.
Orange CC advances to Sunday's Region XV Championship Game, where they will face the winner of the match-up between top-seeded SUNY Sullivan and fourth-seeded SUNY Ulster, while Westchester looks forward to building upon an incredible 2019-2020 campaign, during which they competed as a varsity program for a full season for the first time since the program was reinstated, and won 11 games despite playing a schedule that featured seven nationally ranked opponents, and three games against NJCAA Division I foes.
