Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Ruizy Money: Women’s Basketball Downs Rockland CC 77-43 to claim 10th victory behind freshman’s 24 points

(Suffern, NY) - For all of the twists and turns that the 2019-2020 season has taken, for all of the storylines that have been written, for all of the highs and lows that have come for a program playing its first full varsity schedule in its third season of play, when the final chapter is written this year for the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball team, it will be said that when the team's playoff prospects were on the line, the Vikings played at their very best. Freshman Jailine Ruiz (Bronx, NY/William Cullen Bryant HS) scored a game-high 24 points, to go with six rebounds and three assists, and sophomore Jada Tom (Elmsford, NY/Alexander Hamilton HS) added 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists, as Westchester swept the season series against Rockland Community College, 77-43 on Thursday night at Rockland CC.

With the win, Westchester's first after a four-game losing streak, the Vikings incredibly improve to 10-12 for the 2019-2020 season, including an outstanding 4-2 ledger in Mid-Hudson Conference and NJCAA Region XV play. The win allows the Vikings to keep pace with Orange Community College as the teams battle for a top-two seed for the upcoming Region XV championship tournament.

For a program competing in its first full varsity season, with only one sophomore on the roster, the 10-win plateau and coming trip to the post-season represents an incredible accomplishment.

Also for Westchester, freshman Donjeta Prelvukaj (Bronx, NY/St. Catharine) added 17 points, and a game-high seven rebounds.

The Vikings shot 39% from the floor, including a 12 for 32 effort from three-point range. They also grabbed 43 rebounds, and turned the ball over only nine times.

Westchester CC returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 11 when the Vikings travel to Sullivan Community College for a 5:00 p.m. game.
