(Valhalla, NY) - 625 days after last taking to the court in Viking Gymnasium, the Westchester Community College Women's Basketball team showed little rust on Saturday afternoon as the Vikings scored 20+ points during each of the first three quarters en route to a 79-59 win over Bergen Community College during the first day of the Johnny Jones Memorial Tip-Off Tournament.
The Vikings opened the game with the hot hand, shooting 60% from the floor during the first quarter to take a 22-12 lead after the opening 10 minutes. 10 minutes later, Westchester CC led 43-25, and the rout was on.
Freshman
Adriana McFadden (Ossining, NY/Ossining HS) enjoyed the finest of college basketball debuts, scoring 27 points on 10 for 14 shooting, and she added five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Fellow freshman
Kylee Taxiera (Ossining, NY/Ossining HS) added 17 points and five rebounds.
Also for the Vikings, freshman
Mylene Smith (Peekskill, NY/Hendrick Hudson HS) added 12 points, five rebounds, and six assists.
Westchester finished the game shooting 46%, compared to 31% for Bergen, and the Vikings won the rebounding battle 51-44.
Westchester CC closes the Johnny Jones Memorial Tip-off Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 7 when the Vikings face Hostos Community College at 1:00 p.m.
