Tickled Pink - Vikings Shine in Front of Strong Crowd at Dig - Pink Night

Oct 12

Box Score October 12, 2022
Valhalla, NY – Westchester's Women's Volleyball team shook off a loss to Ulster on Saturday by bouncing back to defeat Rockland last night 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-17).  On Dig Pink Day, a game to raise Breast Cancer Awareness, the team was spot on as they played in front of a vibrant home crowd.

Receiving the serve was the impressive stat of the night as the entire team only committed one serve receive error.  This led to the team being able to keep balls in play and rack up the points needed to stay ahead.  Game 1 featured the typical Viking defense and attack as they used it to pull away late after the game being close for most of the points.  In game 2, however, Westchester fell behind by as many as 6 points and kept fighting back to even the score.  They used a late 5 point run to even things up and eventually win by 2.

That game seemed to get the Vikings back on track as they tightened up the errors to take game 3.  Sara Ortiz (Elmsford, NY/White Plains HS) once again stared for Westchester.  She led the team with 5 aces, 31 serve receive balls with no errors and 19 digs.  Gabriella Cresti Caetano (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers HS) led the team with 9 kills.

The victory moves the team record to 9-4 on the season and 9-3 within Region 15.  The Vikings move on to a rematch with Ulster in what is to be the final regular season match at home, and Sophomore night on Thursday.  The match will likely determine the team's seeding in the Mid-Hudson Conference tournament.  First serve will be at 7pm.
