Suffern, NY – The Vikings completed their regular season with the volleyball team's best record in over a decade after two 3-0 wins versus Hostos and Nassau on Saturday.  The twin victories ensured the #4 seed heading into the Region XV tournament, which means SUNY Westchester will host a first-round match for the first time in recent history.

In the first match, Westchester was able to control the Caiman attack.  After exchanging points for much of game 1, the Vikings pulled away for the 25-20 win.  As the match wore on, the team got stronger, winning both games 2 and 3 by the score of 25-16 to sweep 3-0.  The Vikings also moved on to sweep Nassau in 3 to complete a strong day.

Chidimma Chima (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers HS) stared for Westchester as she moved positions and had a huge impact at the net both offensively and defensively.  Ireana Olivo (Yonkers, NY/Maria Regina HS) was also her steady self by showing off a strong serve, to go along with solid offensive and defensive play.

The win moves the Vikings to 11-5 on the season and 11-3 in Region XV.  They will host a NJCAA Region XV Quarterfinal match on Thursday, October 20th versus Queensborough at 7pm.  The Tigers are the defending Region XV Champions, a team that Westchester beat 3-2 in exciting fashion earlier this season.

However, the team first will travel to Dutchess Community College to compete in the Mid-Hudson Conference Championships.   They enter the tournament as the #3 seed and will take on Ulster in the 1st round, a team that accounts for 2 of the Viking's 5 losses on the season.  The first matches start at 5:30pm.
